According to The Daily Star around 3,000 workers from Garments Export Village Limited and Bravo Apparels in the Tongi BSCIC Industrial area went on strike to demand the implementation of their 13-point demand list from the factory management. Both factories belong to Amtranet Group with Head Office in the same building as Garments Export Village Limited. Garments Export Village Limited is listed in the Open Supply Hub (OSH). According to OSH the factory supplies to a member of the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles and a Fair Wear Foundation member.

The workers' demands include payment of unpaid salaries of August as well as ensuring salaries are paid between the third and seventh of each month, furthermore a 15 percent salary increase, and a Tk 1,000 attendance bonus.

Further demands are 18 days of annual paid leave, overtime bills, Eid bonuses, four months of paid maternity leave, and a guarantee that no protesting workers will be fired or blacklisted. Respectful treatment at work and 12 days of festival holidays are also among their demands.

The workers said that they will not resume work until their demands have been met and official notification of acceptance of their demands has been issued.

The Business Standard reported on the same day, that the factory owners agreed to pay one month's salary. They also assured that the other demands would be addressed. As a consequence, the workers suspended their protest, and the factory was declared closed for the day, allowing the workers to go home.

But according to a later article in The Daily Star the strike went on the following day and the striking workers of Garments Export Village Limited and Bravo Apparels were joined by workers from Prince Jacquard Sweater Limited on the third day of the strike (10.09.2024).
